Nov. 14, 2007 Big Second Half Lifts Tigers Past York York, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan women overcame a 14 point second half deficit and held York College to only two field goals over the final 5:23 as the Tiger women earned a 72-63 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Tuesday night (Nov. 13) in York, Neb. The win improves DWU to 2-3 overall on the season. DWU trailed 40-30 at halftime, and York (0-4) came out and scored the first two baskets to go up 14 points, but the Tiger defense started pressuring the Panthers into much tougher shots the rest of the half. Allison Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 7:58 to play in the second half to put the Tigers ahead for the first time in the second half at 56-54. York went back ahead 58-57 at the 5:23 mark, but that was the last time they would lead. Angela Noteboom made a lay-up at the 5:09 mark to put DWU up 59-58 and they would never trail again. York College did not make a field goal until the final minute of the game as the Tigers held them without a basket for over four minutes. Johnson led all scorers with 25 points going 6-18 from the floor and 10-13 from the free throw line. Sister Ashley Johnson was the only other Tiger player to reach double digits with 13 points. York was led by center Kristin Wiedemann who scored 24 points on 11-17 shooting. Dakota Wesleyan returns to the Corn Palace on Thursday (Nov. 13) when they host Nebraska Christian College at 6 p.m. |
