Nov. 15, 2007 Wrestlers Drop GPAC Opener to Hastings Hastings, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team opened its Great Plains Athletic Conference season on Wednesday (Nov. 14) dropping a close 21-19 dual at Hastings College in Hastings College. It was the first ever home wrestling dual for Hastings as it is the first year wrestling has been offered at the college. Both teams posted five wins in the dual, but Hastings recorded two falls while DWU had just one. The Tigers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the dual, as Andrew Leggott recorded a pin at 125 pounds and Jordan Harer had a major decision 10-2 victory at 133 pounds. Hastings took the next three matches including one fall to take a 12-10 lead after five matches. Tony Duarte picked up a 11-4 decision victory at 165 pounds to put DWU ahead 13-12, but Hastings came back with a decision win at 174 to go up 15-13. At 184 pounds, Kyle Henderson won a 9-7 decision to give DWU a 16-15 lead, but that is the last time the Tigers would lead in the dual. Hastings got a pin at 197 pounds to go up 21-16, and the dual ended with DWU freshman heavyweight Payton Henderson getting a 3-0 decision victory to make the final score 21-19. The Dakota Wesleyan wrestlers travel to Minneapolis, Minn., this Saturday (Nov. 17) to take part in the Auggie Brute/Addidas Open. |
