Nov. 15, 2007 Weidler Signs with DWU Women’s Soccer
MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan head women’s soccer coach Dale Roden has announced that Sarah Weidler has signed a letter of intent to compete for the Tigers during the 2008 season. Weidler, a senior at Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School, was a two-year starter as a defender in soccer at O’Gorman. She also played for the Dakota Gold Club soccer team for three seasons. “We were extremely excited to make a commitment to Sarah,” Roden said. “She possesses the ability to step into our defensive third and grab control instantly.” Weidler also is a standout gymnast, competing for six years in gymnastics at O’Gorman. She received the Linda Koch Award as outstanding gymnast on the team and also received the Sarah Nitz award honoring the most inspirational gymnast. Weidler is the daughter of Ron and Judy Weidler from Sioux Falls. “Sarah showcases everything that we are looking for in this recruiting class,” Roden said. “The desire to make an impact right away, as well as an appetite for ownership in our young program.” She becomes the first player to sign with the Tigers in the 2008 recruiting class. The DWU women’s soccer team is trying to build up its roster for next season to compete at a higher level in the GPAC Conference. “We are returning a low number of players from this year’s roster which provides a unique situation for our in-coming freshmen class,” Roden added. “It is an opportunity yet also a challenge for them to take on as they become the majority of our squad this fall.” “We anticipate having an opportunity to expand our roster with some additional announcements very soon.” |
