#9 Dakota State Holds Off Tigers 73-66

Mitchell, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan trailed by five with just under one minute to play, but the Tigers could not score on their next possession as 9th-ranked Dakota State University held on for a 73-66 victory in a NAIA II Women’s basketball game on Saturday night (Nov. 17) at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

Angela Noteboom hit the first of two free throws with 29 seconds to play to pull DWU within 71-66 and Sarah Mortenson then stole the rebound from the Lady T’s player to give DWU an opportunity to get closer but Adria Pazour missed a lay-up with 12 seconds to play.

DSU hit a pair of free throws to seal the seven point win.

The game was tied 48-48 at the 14:24 mark and DWU would get within one point at the 11:17 mark after Whitney Gard hit a basket to make the score 56-55. However, the Tigers could get no closer.

Allison Johnson led the Tigers with 17 points on 7-12 shooting. She also let the Tigers with six assists. The only other DWU player to reach double figures was Ashley Johnson with 10 points. Pazour, Gard and Sarah Mortenson all had six rebounds to lead DWU. The Tigers out rebounded the much bigger Lady T’s, 42-36.

Four players reached double figures for Dakota State led by Jessica Van Loy with 19 points.

The Tigers will open up Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (Nov. 20) when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face the University of Sioux Falls. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
