DWU Women Beat USF 65-62 in Double OT Thriller

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Angela Noteboom stole a Caitlyn Wojahn pass with under one second to play in double overtime to seal a Dakota Wesleyan University 65-62 victory over rival University of Sioux Falls in the Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball opener on Tuesday (Nov. 20) night at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

With the game tied at 62-62 in the second overtime, Noteboom made a lay-up with 1:22 to play to put DWU up by two, and that proved to be the game-winning basket.

It was a game of droughts for both teams. DWU opened the game with a 10-0 lead and did not allow USF to make a field goal until the 10:41 mark of the first half. However, the DWU offense then went into a funk as the Tigers scored only four points in the span of 10 minutes.

The Tigers led 21-17 at halftime, but DWU really struggled on offense to start the second half. DWU scored just two points in the first 11:24 of the second half as USF took over the lead. The Cougars first got the lead at 25-23 at the 16:34 mark.

DWU regained the lead at the 1:56 mark when Allison Johnson made a 3-pointer to put DWU up 41-40.

The game was tied 44-44 after regulation, as USF had just two team fouls so they fouled DWU down the stretch. Allison Johnson attempted a lay-up at the buzzer that was no good and there was no foul on the play so the game went to overtime.

USF jumped out to a 50-44 lead in overtime, but Ashley Johnson hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to three points. With USF leading 52-50, Ashley stole the ball at half court and made a fast break lay-up to tie the game at 52-52. A missed 3-pointer by Wojahn at the buzzer sent the game to double ovetime.

Ashley Johnson finished the game with 24 points, including five 3-pointers to lead DWU. Allison Johnson had 14 points. Adria Pazour led DWU with 12 rebounds.

Morgan Campbell led USF with 17 points. The Cougars committed 33 turnovers in the game and shot 39.7 percent from the field.
