Nov. 28, 2007 Women Survive Another Overtime Game Mitchell, S.D. — For the second straight game, the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team had to go to overtime to earn a victory as the Tigers held off Dordt College, 80-78, in overtime on Wednesday (Nov. 28) at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers move to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC. DWU opened the GPAC season with a double overtime victory over Sioux Falls. Allison Johnson had a big second half to lead the DWU attack as she scored 21 second half points to lead the Tigers. Johnson finished with 23 points after scoring only two points in three minutes in the first half. DWU led by as many 17 points in the second half before going on nearly an eight minute drought without a field goal. Dordt climbed back to get within 36-28 at halftime. Amber Soodsma hit a jumper at the 1:34 mark to tie the game at 68-68 for the fifth tie of the game. Allison Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 59 seconds left to put DWU up 70-68, but Soodsma hit a lay-up with eight seconds to play to tie the game at 70-70 at the end of regulation. Angela Noteboom made a lay-up with 1:13 to play in the overtime period to put DWU up by three. Jenny Miller closed the gap to 79-78 with 1:00 to play, but they could get no closer. Johnson sealed the win with another free throw with three seconds left. Besides Johnson’s 23 points, the only other DWU player to reach double figures was Adria Pazour with 11 points. She also had five rebounds. Dordt was led by Kate Du Mez who scored 18 points and had six rebounds. Dakota Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Crete, Neb., to face Doane College. |
