Oct. 23, 2007 Dordt Continues Winning Streak Against DWU Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt College extended its winning streak to eight matches as the 14th-ranked Defenders swept past Dakota Wesleyan University, 3-0, in a Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball match on Tuesday (Oct. 23) night in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt won the three games with scores of 30-17, 30-21, 30-26. The Defenders improve their overall record to 29-6 and move to 10-4 in the GPAC, while DWU falls to 6-19 overall and 2-11 in the conference. The Tigers have now lost seven straight matches. Dordt has now defeated Dakota Wesleyan 18 straight times posting an 18-0 overall record versus the Tigers in volleyball. DWU did hold a lead throughout most of game three, including a 24-23 lead, but after Dordt tied the game at 25-25, they went on a 5-1 run to close out the match. Maria Wieneke and Jen Miner each had 11 kills to lead DWU, while Beth Kopfmann had a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs. Dena Kopfmann recorded 24 digs to lead the Tigers. Kristin De Ronde led Dordt with 17 kills while Lariss Veldhuizen added 11 kills. DWU returns home this weekend for a pair of GPAC matches. The Tigers host Doane College on Friday night (Oct. 26) at 7:30 p.m., then play host to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at 3:00 p.m., for Parent’s Day. |
