Oct. 27, 2007 DWU Men 11th, Women 12th at GPAC Cross Country Crete, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University cross country teams competed at the 2007 Great Plains Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Oct. 27) on the campus of Doane College in Crete, Neb. The DWU men placed 11th as a team, with the men finishing in 12th place. Nebraska Wesleyan University won both the men’s and women’s team championships. The Prairie Wolf men had 29 points to defeat Concordia University by 20 points. The NWU women had 45 points to run away with the team title defeating Concordia University by 32 points. The DWU men had 287 team points and the women had 377. For the Tiger men, sophomore Thomas Madut was the top placer finishing in 21st place overall in a time of 27:08.49. Isaac VanDyke was the next highest placer for DWU running a time of 28:51.59 to place 62nd. The other three players that figured in the team race for the Tigers were Brandon Hislop (86th), Jason Lanning (88th) and Brian Cruz (91st). Chris Dunker, a senior from Nebraska Wesleyan, was the individual medalist with a time of 25:45.23. The DWU women were led by Heidi Birkley who finished in a time of 22:52.73 to place 83rd. Amy McIntyre was the next highest runner placing 90th. Abby Mettler (97th), Paula Mettler (102nd) and Katherine Clayton (105th) rounded out the DWU women’s team. Freshman Olivia Johnson from Northwestern College won the individual title in a time of 18:07.93. The DWU Cross Country teams will compete in the NAIA Region III Championships next Saturday (Nov. 3) in Sioux Falls, S.D. |
