Oct. 29, 2007 Doom & Leon Named GPAC Players-of-the-Week
Sioux City, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan University quarterback Jon Doom was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week and DWU kicker Sergio Leon was named the GPAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for his effort in a 34-31 Tiger win over Hastings College on Saturday (Oct. 27). Trevor Holleman from the University of Sioux Falls was the GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Doom, a sophomore from Wagner, S.D., completed 20-29 passes for a career-high 316 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos. His passing yardage total of 316 yards was the highest passing amount for a DWU quarterback since Oct. 11, 2003 when Mike Kieffer set a school record with 448 yards. Doom also helped lead the Tigers to 580 yards of total offense which is the highest total for a DWU offense since Nov. 4, 1994 when DWU put up 652 yards vs. Trinity Bible. Leon, a redshirt freshman from El Monte, Calif., hit the game-winning field goal as time expired against the Broncos. Leon was 2-2 on field goals in the victory, including the 28-yard game-winner. He was also a perfect 4-4 on PATs. The 34-31 victory was the Tigers first ever win over Hastings College in football. The Broncos had won the previous 13 meetings. Dakota Wesleyan (2-6, 2-6 GPAC) will play its final home game this
Saturday (Nov. 3) when they host Briar Cliff University at 1 p.m., at
