Oct. 29, 2007 Dakota State Holds off DWU Rally Madison, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan had two game point opportunities to win game four, but Dakota State rallied and held off the Tigers to earn a 3-1 victory in a NAIA volleyball match on Monday evening (Oct. 29) in Madison, S.D. The Trojans won the first two games 30-24, 30-14 before DWU dominated game three 30-16. DSU won the exciting fourth game, 34-32, to earn the match win. The Trojans avenged an earlier loss to DWU when the Tigers earned a 3-2 win during homecoming on Sept. 25 in Mitchell. Dakota State (6-23) dominated the first two games of the match. The Trojans pounded out 18 kills in game two, while DWU managed just six. DWU (6-22) came back and took complete control of the third game. The Tigers recorded 14 kills and forced DSU into a negative hitting percentage. Dakota State had five kills with a -.182 hitting percentage to force the fourth game. The fourth game was back and forth through the entire game. DWU led 30-29 but a DWU attack error tied the game at 30-30. Jayna Morrill then had a kill to put the Tigers up 31-30. Dakota State had back-to-back kills to go up 32-31. DWU tied the game at 32-32 on a kill by Maria Wieneke, but DSU scored the next two points for the win. Three Tigers reached double figures in kills led by Wieneke with 19. Kalie Whealy had 11 kills and six blocks, while Jen Miner had 10 kills. Morgan Carlson had a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs, while Dena Kopfmann led the Tigers with 28 digs. Dakota Wesleyan returns home for its final match of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 31) when they host the University of Sioux Falls on Halloween in Fosness Arena in the Wellness Center on the DWU campus. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. |
