April 2, 2008 Tiger Women’s Soccer Program Adds Four More Recruits MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University head women’s soccer coach Dale Roden has announced the signing of four players to join the DWU women’s soccer program. Madeaya Gedstad from Mitchell High School, Ashley Reed from Fossil Ridge High School (Fort Collins, Colo.), Drew Miller from T.F. Riggs High School (Pierre), and Skyler Swan from Northern State University all have committed to play for the Tigers during the 2008 soccer season. “We feel very privileged to announce these recent commitments to our program,” Roden said. “The GPAC is a highly competitive soccer conference. These new additions strengthen our ability to evolve the DWU women’s soccer program into a team that is worthy of respect throughout the GPAC.” Swan (5-7, midfielder) is a transfer from Northern State University. Before attending Northern State, Swan was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and track at North Clackamas Christian High School in Clackamas, Ore. She was also a two-year letterwinner in cross country and a one-year letterwinner in basketball. Off the field, she was a member of the honor roll. “We feel fortunate to include Sky in this recruiting class. As a transfer student-athlete with a season of collegiate playing experience, she carries numerous tools that will enable our predominantly young program to excel,” Roden said. “We have no doubt that she will strongly influence our team personality as well as success on the field.” Gedstad (5-2, striker/forward) graduated from Mitchell High School in 2007 and was a one-year letterwinner in soccer. Off the field, Gedstad was a peer counselor and a member of student council. “We plan to redshirt Daya this fall, providing her the valuable opportunity to grow into an outstanding asset for us in the future,” Roden said. “She is focused on getting the most out of the experience, and we are excited to witness her development as well as put her in uniform in 2009.” Miller (5-10, forward) is a four-year letterwinner in basketball and track at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, S.D. She was a member of the T.F. Riggs basketball team that finished second in the state in 2007 and 2008. She has played soccer for two years at the high school level on a club team. “We look for Drew to challenge others and break into our starting 11 as soon as fall. We fully intend to use her unique combination of size, strength and mobility in our midfield,” Roden said. “Although we are not willing to confine her impact to a designated position yet, we have a number of options to consider.” Reed (5-3, midfielder/forward) was a midfielder/forward at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colo. “Ashley will strengthen our midfield efforts,” Roden said. “She brings ambition to step in and contribute to a style that we aspire to use this fall in which we attack out of the midfield.” With these commitments, the women’s soccer program has 15 signees for the 2008 recruiting class. |
