April 9, 2008 Tigers Get Split with GPAC-Leading Red Raiders MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team earned an important split with the No. 1 team in the GPAC, Northwestern College. The Tigers lost game one 1-0 and got a 10-run rule decision in the sixth inning in game two to take an 11-1 victory on Tuesday (April 8) at Cadwell Park Stadium. In game one, senior Chris Dennis started on the mound and pitched all seven innings. Dennis gave up the lone run of the game off six hits and struck out four, while not allowing any walks. The Tigers had only two hits in 24 at bats and stranded five runners on base. Josh Pritt and Jered Betancourt had the only hits for DWU. Senior Chris Baker took the mound in the second game and received a lot of support from the Tiger offense. Baker gave up one run off three hits in five innings of work. He struck out four and gave up two walks. Thomas Pickett came in and pitched the sixth inning. Pickett faced just three batters to seal the victory. The Tiger bats got hot in the second game, pounding out 15 hits for a two-run third inning, a five-run fourth inning and a four-run sixth inning for the 10-run rule. Pritt led the way going 3-5 with one RBI. Kyle Isaacson was 2-5 with three RBIs, and Zach Huston went 2-4 with two RBIs. DWU is now 12-13 overall and has a 5-7 GPAC record. Northwestern receives only its second conference loss (10-2) and is 17-9 overall. The Tigers travel to Madison to take on Dakota State University in one nine-inning game on Wednesday, April 9. Dakota Wesleyan will then host Hastings College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 and Concordia University at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. Both dates are set for a doubleheader at Cadwell Park Stadium. |
