April 10, 2008 Heary’s Three-Run Home Run Not Enough for Tigers
MADISON, S.D. — Junior Sean Heary hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning for the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers lost 7-10 to Dakota State University in a nonconference game on Wednesday (April 9). Cory Marek started on the mound and gave up seven runs off six hits in just one inning. Dakota State had four single hits, two home runs and three walks to quickly take a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Thomas Pickett came in to pitch the second inning and gave up only one run off three hits in three innings of work. Pickett struck out five and walked only one. The Tigers got one run in the third inning off an RBI double by Terry Lundeen, and Sean Worley scored in the fourth inning off a fielder’s choice hit by Zach Huston. Both teams put together two-run fifth innings, but DSU’s seven-run first inning was too much for the Tigers to make up. Freddy Janssen and Phil Johnson each pitched two innings. Janssen gave up two runs off three hits, and Johnson gave up two hits and had two strikeouts. DWU falls to 12-14 overall. Wesleyan will host Hastings College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 and Concordia University at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. Both dates are set for a doubleheader at Cadwell Park Stadium. |
