April 17, 2008 Busy Weekend Set for DWU Athletics MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University is set for one of the busiest athletic weekends of the spring season. Five different athletic teams will be in action. The DWU softball team will host Nebraska Wesleyan University in a GPAC doubleheader on Friday, April 18. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Cadwell Park. The Tigers will also host Hastings College on Saturday, April 19. The GPAC doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. The softball team is 9-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play, and is currently in the 10th spot in the GPAC standings. The football team will conclude its spring-ball season with a football scrimmage at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19 on the DWU football practice field on campus. Following the scrimmage, the Tiger football program will host a parent and player barbeque. The Tiger baseball team will host Briar Cliff University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Cadwell Park for its final home GPAC doubleheader. DWU will also travel to Blair, Neb., to take on Dana College on Sunday, April 20. The Tigers are 15-16 overall and 8-8 in GPAC play, and are currently in a four-way tie for fifth place in the GPAC standings. The DWU track and field teams will head to Sioux City, Iowa, to take part in the Sioux City Relays. The meet runs on Friday and Saturday, and will have both high school and college athletes competing. The Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf team will travel to Orange City, Iowa, to participate in the Northwestern College Invite on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19. The women’s golf team moved up from No. 23 to No. 21 in the most recent NAIA Women’s Golf Ratings released on April 11. |
