April 21, 2008 Tiger Track and Field Teams Compete
at Sioux City Relays SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team traveled to the two-day Sioux City Relays over the weekend, and the Tigers came away with a handful of top-10 finishes against a competitive field. The DWU men had six top-10 finishes in five different events, while the women landed in the top 10 three times Friday and Saturday at Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa. Jumpers Frank Thompson and Brittany Ulmer continued to lead the Tigers. Each turned in a third-place finish in Sioux City. Thompson cleared 6-2 in the high jump to finish third, and Ulmer was third in the triple jump with a distance of 35-8. Ulmer added an eighth-place finish in the long jump when she jumped 15-09.50. The women’s other top finish came from the 4x100-meter relay team. Cisalie Bechen, Wendy Schmaltz, Rose Decker and Steph Liest ran a 56.27, which was good for 10th place. Alex Liberty also cleared 6-2 in the high jump for the DWU men, and his effort landed him in fifth place. Layne Scheveck took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.15 and Danny Hutcheson was also seventh in the long jump with a jump of 21-06.25. Chris Sheckler was eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 136-06 and the Tigers’ 4x100-meter relay team took ninth. Scheveck, Paul Wilson, Hutcheson and Thompson combined to finish the race in 44.66 seconds. DWU will compete again on Saturday when it travels to the Sioux Falls Open. |
