April 25, 2008 Tigers Sweep Cougars in Windy and Frigid Doubleheader MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team swept the University of Sioux Falls 6-2 and 10-4 in a GPAC doubleheader in cold and windy conditions on Thursday (April 24). The Tigers took a quick lead with a two-run first inning off a single by Josh Pritt, a single by Sean Worley and a double by Kyle Isaacson. DWU was able to add two more runs in the third inning off singles by Pritt, Sean Heary and Isaacson. NAIA Region III Pitcher-of-the-Week, Chris Baker, took the mound in game one. Baker pitched six innings and allowed two runs off six hits and struck out five. Issacson finished the first game 3-4 with three RBIs. Pritt and Heary both finished 2-3. In the second game, the Tigers fell behind early after a USF two-run second inning. Wesleyan was able to answer with a three-run third inning, a two-run fourth inning, a one-run fifth inning, and exploded for a four-run sixth inning. Chris Dennis got the win on the mound pitching six innings. Dennis gave up two runs off six hits and struck out eight. Jake Roy led the Tiger offense going 2-5 with one RBI. Sean Worley finished the game 2-4, and Heary was 1-4 with two RBIs. DWU improves to 19-19 overall and 12-10 in conference play. The Tigers move into fifth place in the conference standings, and gear up for their final GPAC doubleheader against Mount Marty College on Saturday, April 26 in Yankton. |
