April 26, 2008 DWU Golf Teams Qualify for NAIA Region III Golf Championship MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s golf teams both qualified for the NAIA Region III Golf Championships which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Seven women’s teams and seven men’s teams along with select individuals will participate in the two-day event. Five Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and two Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) teams will make up the seven teams, and individual qualifiers needed to place in the top-10 in their respective conference championships. The DWU women’s team finished second in the GPAC Women’s Golf Championships on Oct. 11-12 in Lincoln, Neb. last fall. Cassidy Potter was the top finisher for the Tigers, finishing in third place. Abby Wheeling finished in fifth place, and Kelli Baseley ended in a tie for seventh place. The Wesleyan men’s team won the GPAC Men’s Golf Championships last week on April 21-22 in Sioux Falls. Tyler Evenson was the top finisher for the Tigers at third place, and Brett Abbotts finished in seventh overall. The women’s teams that qualified for the Region III championships are Dickinson State University (DAC), Jamestown College (DAC), the University of Sioux Falls (GPAC), Hastings College (GPAC), Northwestern College (GPAC), and Dana College (GPAC). The men’s teams that qualified are Minot State University (DAC), Dickinson State University (DAC), Dordt College (GPAC), Hastings College (GPAC), Midland Lutheran College (GPAC), and the University of Sioux Falls (GPAC). The NAIA Region III Champion and Medalist will advance to the NAIA National Golf Championships. The NAIA Men’s Golf Championships are May 13-16 in Plymouth, Ind., and the NAIA Women’s Golf Championships are May 20-23 in San Diego, Calif. |
