Three Dakota Wesleyan Women Named All-GPAC

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Three members of the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team have received All-GPAC honors.

Senior Adria Pazour and sophomore Allison Johnson were named to the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Conference Second Team, and junior Sarah Mortenson received All-GPAC Honorable Mention recognition.

Pazour led the Tigers in rebounding at 7.4 rebounds per game and was second in scoring at 11.1 points per game. The Pukwana, S.D., native is eighth in the GPAC in rebounding and blocked shots (1.13 per game). She had five double-doubles during the season and had a season-high 18 points and 17 rebounds in a win against Briar Cliff University on Jan. 23. Pazour was named All-GPAC Second Team as a junior.

Johnson led Wesleyan in scoring this season, averaging 14.6 points per game. The Mount Vernon, S.D., native scored 15 or more points in 14 games this season and had a season-high 26 points in a victory over Bethany Lutheran College on Dec. 12. She is 10th in the GPAC in scoring and free-throw shooting at 75.5 percent.

Mortenson, a native of Selby, S.D., averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She had a season-high 20 points in a win against Mount Marty College on Jan. 9 in the Corn Palace. Mortenson was named All-GPAC Honorable Mention as a freshman and sophomore.

Debbie Remmerde of Northwestern College received the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Player-of-the-Year, and Tevan Wenbourne of Mount Marty College was voted the GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Amber Soodsma of Dordt College was named GPAC Freshman-of-the-Year, and Jamie Sales of Morningside College was selected as the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Coach-of-the-Year.

The Tigers finished the 2007-08 basketball season with a 17-15 overall record and had the first winning season since 2003-04. DWU lost in the quarterfinal round of the GPAC Postseason Tournament to Hastings College.
