Mar. 19, 2008 Tigers Give Up 10 Runs in First Three Innings KEARNEY, NEB. — The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team gave up 10 runs in the first three innings in a 13-7 loss to the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday (March 18). The Tiger pitchers walked 11 batters in the first four innings and then settled in and did not give up anymore walks for the remainder of the game. DWU put together two three-run innings (fourth and seventh inning), but the Tigers could not overcome the Lopers’ strong start. Ryan Santiago started at pitcher and took the loss on the mound after two innings. He gave up eight runs off two hits and nine walks. Patrick Dennis then came in and pitched two innings, giving up three runs off three hits. Thomas Pickett pitched two innings, and Chris Dennis and Phil Johnson each pitched one inning. The Tigers had nine hits and struck out seven times. First baseman Sean Heary led the Tiger bats going 4-5, including a double and three singles. Catcher Jeff Bollard had two hits in four at bats. For the Lopers, first baseman Leon De Winter went 3-4 with five RBIs, and third baseman Blake Cover had two hits in four at bats with three RBIs. The Tigers fall to 5-6 overall and open the GPAC schedule with a doubleheader against Doane College on Friday, March 21 in Crete, Neb.
