Mar. 19, 2008 Broughton Receives All-American Honors
KANSAS CITY, MO. – Dakota Wesleyan University junior Preston Broughton added one more honor to complete his season by being named an NAIA Division II All-American First-Team honoree announced on Tuesday (March 18). He becomes only the third Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball player to be named All-American First Team. Brock Seim was named All-American First Team in 2007 and second team in 2006, and Scott Morgan was twice named All-American First Team in 1992 and 1993. Broughton, a Corsica native, led the Tigers in scoring (17.9 points per game) and rebounds (8.8 rebounds per game) and had 16 double-doubles throughout the season. He was third in the GPAC in scoring and second in rebounding. He reached his 1,000th career point on Feb. 9 when the Tigers hosted Dana College. Broughton was named All-GPAC First Team and was honored as the GPAC Player-of-the-Year this year. He was named All-GPAC Second Team as a sophomore. He was named GPAC Player-of-the-Week twice during this season. The Tigers finished their second consecutive 20-win season with a 24-9 overall record. DWU advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament and lost to Aquinas College in the first round.
