DWU Sweeps Valley City State in Softball

MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team swept Valley City State University 7-3 and 9-3 in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday (March 19) at Cadwell Park.

In game one, DWU pounded out 11 hits, including home runs from Val Spencer, Meghan Hauck and Sarah Wells. Wells was 3-3; Spencer went 2-4 with two RBIs; and Makinna Meeks went 2-3.

Christina Bonrud pitched the entire game for the Tigers. Bonrud gave up six hits and struck out seven.

Amy Torgerson took the mound in the second game and struck out eight batters while only giving up six hits.

Meeks led the Tiger bats going 2-2 with one RBI. Ekekela Watson, Annie Martinez, Hauck, Wells and Lindsey Cooper all had a hit for DWU.

The Tigers improve to 5-6 overall and will open conference play at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 when they host Morningside College in a doubleheader.
