Mar. 28, 2008 Roy Leads Tiger Bats in Sweep of Northern State
MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University senior outfielder Jake Roy went 5-6 with five RBIs in the Tigers’ baseball doubleheader sweep of Northern State University on Wednesday (March 26). DWU defeated the Wolves in five innings in both games, 11-0 and 10-0. In the first game, Roy had a walk-off three-run home run in the fifth inning to seal the Tiger victory, and he finished 3-3 with three RBIs. DWU got 11 runs off of five hits in 16 at-bats. The Wolves’ pitchers gave up five walks and hit a Tiger batter five times. Chris Dennis started and took the win on the mound pitching all five innings. He gave up two hits, two walks and struck out three. In the second game with two outs in the fifth inning and the bases loaded, Brandon Weber hit a single and had the game-ending RBI. Freddy Janssen took the mound for the Tigers in the second game and pitched four innings. He gave up four hits, two walks and struck out three. Patrick Dennis came in to pitch the fifth inning and took care of the Wolves quickly, facing just three batters. Josh Pritt went 3-4 with two RBIs, and Roy finished 2-3 with two RBIs. The Tigers got 10 runs off of eight hits. The Tigers improve to 8-9 overall and host Nebraska Wesleyan University on Sunday, March 30 in a GPAC doubleheader, followed by a Northwestern College doubleheader rescheduled for Monday, March 31. |
