Mar. 31, 2008 DWU Sweeps Nebraska Wesleyan in GPAC Baseball Doubleheader MITCHELL, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team battled the cold temperature and falling snow and got an important sweep against Nebraska Wesleyan University 7-6 and 13-3 in a GPAC doubleheader on Sunday (March 30). In the first game, Ryan Santiago had a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Tigers’ come-from-behind victory. DWU fell behind quickly 5-0 after the second inning but put together a five-run sixth inning to seal the victory. Santiago finished the game 2-3 with three RBIs, and Sean Heary went 2-3 with one RBI. Chris Baker got the win for the Tigers on the mound. Baker pitched six innings and gave up six runs off of six hits and struck out five. Thomas Pickett came in to finish the game and faced just three batters. Robert Stephens pitched a solid game for DWU in the second game, pitching four innings and giving up just three runs off of eight hits. Josh Pritt led the Tiger bats going 2-4 with four RBIs, including a double and a three-run home run. Heary, Kyle Isaacson and Jered Betancourt all went 2-3 for DWU. Freddy Janssen finished pitching the game in the sixth inning and faced three batters and had one strikeout. The Tigers improve to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in GPAC play, while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in GPAC play. Dakota Wesleyan will host Northwestern College in a GPAC doubleheader on Monday, March 31. |
