Mar. 31, 2008 DWU Track and Field Teams Open Outdoor Season in Rapid City RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Bauer Invite on Saturday (March 29). Alex Liberty was the top finisher for the Tigers. Liberty finished tied for second in the men’s high jump with a jump of 6-2. DWU had many other top-five finishes in the field events. Jordan Harer finished in fifth place in the pole vault with a jump of 12-00.00; Chris Sheckler placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 136-03; Brittany Ulmer had a jump of 16-01.50 in the women’s long jump, good enough for fifth place; and Holly Westley finished fourth in the women’s discus with a throw of 120-09. Stephanie Leist led the Tigers in the running events with two top-five finishes. She finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.22 and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.39. Katherine Clayton placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:12.78. For the men, Layne Scheveck had a time of 58.35 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish in fourth place. In the long distance events, Abby Mettler placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 23:57.87. On the men’s side, Isaac Van Dyke finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:13.29, while his teammate Dustin Schindler had a time of 18:32.09 to finish fifth. Thomas Madut had a top-five finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:31.47. The DWU track and field teams will travel to Sioux Falls on April 5 to compete in the Vance Butler Memorial. |
