Feb. 12, 2009 DWU women sign Sully Buttes star Elizabeth Lamb
MITCHELL, S.D. – The last 24 hours have been very good to the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team. Wednesday night, DWU scored its biggest win under second-year head coach Aaron Kahl when it knocked off defending NAIA Division II National Champions and third-ranked Northwestern College, and Thursday afternoon Kahl received his first big commitment for his 2009-10 recruiting class when Sully Buttes High School star Elizabeth Lamb signed her Letter of Intent to become a Tiger. “It’s been a good two days,” Kahl said Thursday. “Coming off a great win last night and adding a player of Liz’s caliber today makes it a really exciting time to be a part of the DWU women’s basketball program.” Lamb, a 5-7 senior guard from Onida, S.D., will bring an accomplished basketball pedigree to Mitchell next year. This season, she’s averaging 18 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals per game while shooting 79 percent from the free throw line for the 17-2 Chargers, who are currently ranked in the top five in South Dakota’s Class “B.” “(Lamb) is an outstanding shooter,” Kahl said. “She’s a tough competitor, a good defender, a good athlete and she has a great deal of mental toughness.” Throughout her high school career, Lamb has also established herself, and her team, as a winner. Sully Buttes has won the last two Class “B” state championships with Lamb playing a key role for coach Mark Senftner. Last season she was an All-State Second Team selection, an All-State Tournament Team pick in 2007, and she’s already been picked the All-Conference team five times. Kahl is excited to add that kind of basketball resume to his burgeoning program. “Liz has tremendous championship experience from her two state titles,” Kahl said. “We’re expecting that to carry over and help us as we try to build championship teams at this level. She comes from a winning program and she’s been successful in a lot of big-game situations.” This season, Lamb is in her sixth year as a varsity starter, and will likely earn her sixth varsity letter, and additional All-Conference and All-State honors are also probable. In addition, she has earned six varsity letters in golf and four in volleyball, and she’s a six-year member of the National Honor Society. At Dakota Wesleyan, Lamb plans to major in accounting with a minor in coaching. She is the daughter of Jamie and Susan Lamb of Onida. |
