Feb. 19, 2009 Tosaya signs first three men’s soccer recruits
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer coach Jeremy Tosaya has only been on the job for about six weeks, but he’s already starting to prove he can recruit some of South Dakota’s most talented players to join his program. Thursday, Tosaya announced his first three signings for the 2009 season, and all three are in-state recruits with All-State credentials. Pierre T.F. Riggs teammates Austin Munyon and Jarrett Klinger and Sioux Falls Roosevelt senior Austin Brynjulson have all signed Letters of Intent to continue their soccer careers at DWU beginning this fall. “These signings are a big first step in laying a foundation for this program,” Tosaya said. “I want to build this program around the talent here in South Dakota and that’s what we did. These three guys are some of the best talent graduating in the state this year and they will make an impact immediately to our program. They bring great club and high school experience against quality teams from the region, not just the state.” Headlining Tosaya’s first group of commitments is Munyon, a 5-7 defender with unlimited potential. During his four-year career with the Governors, Munyon was a three-time All-State First Team selection. He also earned his team’s Captain’s Award and MVP Defender Award, as well as four varsity letters. Munyon is also a member of the honor roll at Pierre, and at DWU he plans to major in wildlife management. He is the son of Chris and Jenny Perry. Chris is the Governor’s soccer coach. Tosaya scored another great recruit out of Pierre with the commitment of Klinger, a gifted 5-8 forward. Klinger joined Munyon on the All-State First Team in 2008 after earning All-State Honorable Mention status in 2007. He scored six goals and had 10 assists as a senior, and he earned three varsity letters in soccer during his high school career, as well as three in track and field. Klinger is also a member of the honor roll, and he plans to pursue a degree in accounting at Dakota Wesleyan. He is the son of Ray Klinger and Kim Klein. Munyon and Klinger led Pierre to the 2006 State Championship, as well as a 22-4-2 record over their final two high school seasons, so Tosaya hopes that team success can translate to the college level. Tosaya rounded out his first group of commitments with Brynjulson, a talented 5-8 midfielder who also could help the Tigers immediately. Brynjulson earned All-State Second Team honors this fall while leading Roosevelt to a 10-3-2 record and a third-place finish at state. He was a three-year starter and letter winner for the Rough Riders, and he served as team captain during both his junior and senior seasons. A member of the National Honor Society and the honor roll, Brynjulson is still undecided on a major. He is the son of Curt and Brenda Brynjulson. Though Tosaya still has some recruiting work to do in the offseason, he feels great about the way things have started with the addition of Munyon, Klinger and Brynjulson. Not only does Tosaya think the talented trio will help the Tigers on the field, but he likes what they bring to the table as students and people as well. “I feel like we’re getting quality students, not just quality soccer players in these three young men,” Tosaya said. “They will be a benefit to the university as much as they will be to our program. “I’m very excited to see where this 2009 class is going to take DWU soccer in the next four years.” |
