MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball season has been over for just more than a week, but the excitement for next season jumped up another notch with the announcement that the Tigers have signed Summit star Brittany Hills to a Letter of Intent.

Hills, a 5-9 standout point guard, is the second member of head coach Aaron Kahl’s 2009-10 recruiting class along with Sully Buttes’ star Elizabeth Lamb. With the graduation of backup point guard Heidi Lusk, Kahl knew he had to add talent at that position, and he thinks Hills has all the tools to be an impact player at the point in her college career.

“Brittany is a solid, 5-9 point guard who handles the ball well and does a great job of pushing the ball up the floor in transition,” Kahl said. “She is also a good shooter with great court awareness, which makes her a very good passer. Her size and athleticism also make her a very good rebounding guard.”

Kahl is also excited that Hills comes from a successful basketball program. Summit has reached the Class “B” State Tournament three straight years, and it plays for a fourth-consecutive trip to state Friday night. Summit was 23-2 last season, and is currently 20-2 in 2008-09. Hills also has led the Eagles to four ECC Conference titles.

“We are very pleased Brittany has decided to join our program,” Kahl said. “She has been a part of a winning tradition for many years, and we expect that will continue in her career at Dakota Wesleyan.”

This season, Hills is putting up great numbers across the board. In addition to her 14.5 points per game, she’s averaging eight rebounds, five assists and three steals per contest. She’s shooting 54.8 percent from the floor and 40 percent on 3-point attempts, and she passed the 1,000-point mark for her career. In her time at Summit, Hills has earned six letters and been a four-year starter.

Hills was a member of the 2007 Class “B” All-State Tournament Team, she’s been an All-ECC First Team selection and she has been the team captain and team MVP for coach Mark Amdahl’s Summit squad. Also a standout volleyball player, Hills has been All-ECC First Team and the conference MVP in volleyball. She has earned a total of 18 letters in basketball, volleyball and track and field.

At Dakota Wesleyan, Hills plans to major in elementary education. She is a member of the Honor Roll of Excellence and she is the daughter of Randy and Beth Hills, of Summit.

“Brittany comes from a great family and a great basketball program,” Kahl said. “I think the Dakota Wesleyan community will enjoy watching her over the next four years.”
