DWU women’s golf moves up to No. 22 in latest poll

MITCHELL, S.D. – Sometimes it can pay not to play.

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team moved up a spot Friday when the latest edition of the NAIA Women’s Golf Top 25 Coaches’ Poll was released. In the fall rating, DWU was ranked No. 23 in the nation, and in the first poll of the spring season the Tigers made the jump up to No. 22. DWU won’t open its spring season until April 1 and is still practicing indoors, so moving up the poll at this point in the season is a nice honor for the Tigers based on their fall results.

Oklahoma City University remained in the No. 1 spot in the poll with 11 of 15 first-place votes. DWU is the only Great Plains Athletic Conference school to appear in the rankings, although the University of Sioux Falls appears in the “Others receiving votes” section.

In seven tournament appearances this fall, the Tigers finished first four times and second three times under the direction of head coach Adam Anderson. DWU holds a 19-shot lead over USF in the GPAC standings after two of the four conference qualifier meets, so the Tigers are in excellent position to win their seventh conference title in the last eight years, and to qualify for their seventh-straight trip to the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships.

DWU will open its spring schedule on April 1 with an 18-hole meet at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa. The Tigers will try to finish off their latest GPAC title at the final two conference qualifier meets which will be held April 10 in Blair, Neb., and May 6 in Sioux City, Iowa. The NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships will be held May 25-28 at Meadowbrook in Rapid City, S.D.
