Robert McWhirter has been a team physician at DWU since 1985 and
currently serves as the medical director for the athletic training
department.
“Doc Mac” is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who
hails from Boston, and serves DWU in addition to his own practice
at the Mitchell Orthopedic Center. Dr. McWhirter earned his undergraduate
biology degree Cum Laude from Boston College. He received his Doctor
of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1972.
Before moving to the Mitchell area, Dr. McWhirter completed his
residency at the University of Massachusetts Affiliated Orthopedic
Residency under Dr. Arthur Pappas. Following his residency, he spent
two years as a staff orthopedic surgeon for the Naval Regional Medical
Center in Newport, R.I. from 1977 to 1979. Dr. McWhirter practiced
in Menomonee Falls, Wis., first at Medical Associates and then at
Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic of Menomonee Falls from
1979 until moving to Mitchell in 1985.
In addition to his affiliation with DWU, Dr. McWhirter also acts
as team physician for Mitchell High School, is a member of numerous
local, regional, and national organizations and societies and has
served as a DWU Board of Trustees member for a number of years.
He is a devout Red Sox and Green Bay Packers fan whose other interests
include international travel and ethnic cooking. |

Lucio Margallo is a board-certified physician specializing in internal
medicine at Delaney Clinic in Mitchell, and has been serving as
a team physician with DWU and Mitchell High School since 1985. He
is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas, in Manila, Philippines,
where he received both his undergraduate and Doctor of Medicine
degrees. His training in internal medicine was completed at the
University of South Dakota.
Dr. Margallo presently functions as an attending physician at Avera
Queen of Peace acting as the cardiopulmonary services medical director,
chief of staff and vice chairman of the Medicine Committee. He is
also a member of the executive committee and board of trustees.
Additionally, he serves as the medical director of Avera Brady Rehab
and Brady Memorial Home in Mitchell, a clinical associate professor
at USD School of Medicine and a medical adviser for Mitchell Technical
Institute.
His previous experiences include serving as the Medical Director
of Redfield State Hospital and School in South Dakota, and as an
emergency room physician at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell (now
Avera Queen of Peace), while completing his internal medicine training.
A former board of trustees member at DWU, Dr. Margallo is actively
involved in and a member of numerous local, state, and national
organizations and societies.
He and his wife, Claudette, live in Mitchell and have four grown
children, Farah, Justine, Christopher and Jonelle.

Paul R. Miskimins, D.D.S.

Paul Miskimins serves as the team dentist of DWU Athletics in addition
to his personal dental practice, the Dental Care Center, in Mitchell.
He has been assisting DWU with dental care needs for the past 10
years.
Dr. Miskimins is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College
of Dentistry and the Center for Advanced Dental Learning. He is
a member of the American Dental Association, the South Dakota Dental
Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Mitchell Chamber
of Commerce. |

Joseph Krall

Joe Krall has been providing DWU athletics with optometric services
for the last 10 years. He graduated from the University of South
Dakota in 1988. After completing his undergraduate work he entered
the Illinois College of Optometry and graduated in 1992. While at
ICO Dr. Krall was the recipient of the CIBA Vision Outstanding Clinician
Award.
In 1993, he joined his father and brother in practice at Krall
Optometric Clinic and became a Fellow of the American Academy of
Optometry in 1999. Dr. Krall is a member of the Mitchell Exchange
Club, past president of Pheasant Country and a member of Holy Spirit
Parish.
He and his wife, Julie, and daughter, Maria, live in Mitchell and
enjoy boating and skiing on Lake Mitchell.
