The study of economics is an excellent way to develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand how individuals and organizations in a mixed economy make decisions, what factors impact the functioning of the overall economy, and how to understand and influence a wide variety of public policy decisions, especially those at the center of state and national political debates. The minor in economics combines a grounding in principles of economics with the opportunity to apply those principles in a range of settings, including money and banking, investments, and economic development. The program gives particular attention to the institutional framework in which the US economy functions. Students frequently study economics as a complement to the study of business, law and public service.
