Advising and Forum (ADV) (FRM)
Advising is an essential component of a successful college career. At Dakota
Wesleyan University, advising is more than selecting classes. It includes
building a relationship of trust and understanding. Extra effort is made
to help students get off to a productive start by giving an additional
opportunity to build relationships while learning about all aspects of
the college experience. The Freshman Forum course is designed to provide
a group context for helping freshmen students to 1) acclimate to the academic
environment; 2) participate in advising functions, including advising for
the spring semester of the freshman year and the sophomore year, developing
a four-year academic plan, and developing a semester-by-semester academic
management plan; and 3) participate in extracurricular offerings of the
university and discover links between classroom learning and extracurricular
activities. The course, required of all freshmen, carries one hour of academic
credit on a Credit/No Credit basis and meets the first semester of enrollment.
Failure to complete ADV 101 requires completion of at least three successful
semesters of FRM 200 before graduation.
