Legal Studies Minor
Legal studies programs are rapidly showing up in all
types of universities, but especially in liberal arts colleges. It
is now even common to find a legal studies major. DWU now offers a
legal studies minor.
This minor is designed for students interested in the
American legal system. The program would emphasize law in a social
context with a broad-based liberal arts curriculum and focus on enhancing
analytical thinking, research and writing skill. The legal studies
minor treats law as a subject of liberal inquiry, open to all students
in any major. The legal studies minor, as a liberal studies program,
is designed to acquaint students with the philosophy as well as the
actual workings of the American legal system.
Knowledge of the law and the legal system is important
in a wide array of careers. It is hard to think of any college graduate
going into the work force who is not made continually aware of the
legal aspects of his or her work; i.e., educators, human service personnel,
social workers, law enforcement officers, corrections workers, business
professionals.
