The
general criteria for admission to the Honors Program are:
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 each semester
- Submitting an application form with an accompanying essay/project
(see below)
- One letter of support from professor/academic adviser/campus pastor
familiar with your record
- An ACT score of 25 or higher for incoming freshmen interested in participating
in the program will be able to enroll in Honors courses. An ACT score
of 25 or higher is not required for students interested in participating
in the program who have completed at least one year of college and have
maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 each semester or have petitioned the
Research and Scholarship Committee for an exception to the GPA requirement.
Students who have notable extracurricular experience and/or leadership
activities and who, for whatever reason, do not quite achieve the GPA
and ACT cutoffs are still encouraged to apply. All components of the application
are used to reach a final decision.
- Fill out this application
form. You may submit the form electronically to ankelly@dwu.edu.
- Using your thought, imagination and creativity, provide a one-page
(8 ½ x 11) supplement to your application form. You are free
to put anything on this page that you feel expresses your desire and
ability to be a part of an honors program. Rather than sending three-dimensional
objects, you may send your supplement as an electronic file (e.g., digital
photo, essay, etc.). Be sure your name is clearly indicated on all your
materials. Please note that these materials will not be returned.
- Request that one letter of support be submitted by an individual from
your school or by someone who can attest to your qualifications for
admittance to the Honors Program. Click
here or above for a form for the letter. Note that we are asking
specifically about their evaluation of you as a potential honors student
and that their letter should be focused on this issue. Be sure that
the letter is sent to ankelly@dwu.edu.
We will notify you of a decision as soon as possible. If you have any
questions, please feel free to e-mail Dr. Anne Kelly at ankelly@dwu.edu
or call (605) 995-2961.
