Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology (Sabbatical Replacement)

Dakota Wesleyan University, a private, four-year, liberal arts university seeks a broadly trained biologist for a one year visiting assistant professor position in biology. Teaching responsibilities include human anatomy, human physiology, microbiology, comparative zoology, and possibly ornithology depending on candidates potential area of expertise. This is a nine month, full time position with benefits beginning in August 2010 and ending in May 2011.

The Dakota Wesleyan University College of Healthcare, Fitness and Sciences is home to over half of the students on campus. The average ACT of students in the college is 23 and the placement rate into graduate schools has consistently exceeded 95%. Most students pursue graduate school opportunities in various allied health professions. It is the expectation that students will have an opportunity to do undergraduate research and internships related to the student’s specific career interests. The College of Healthcare, Fitness and Sciences houses the following majors: nursing, biology, biochemistry, athletic training, mathematics, sports management, exercise and wellness.

Earned doctorate or ABD required. Teaching experience preferred and a demonstrated commitment to the DWU mission and values of learning, leadership, faith and service are a must.

Assistant Professor of Special and Elementary Education

Dakota Wesleyan University, a four year private liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in Mitchell, South Dakota, is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Special and Elementary Education to begin August, 2010. Dakota Wesleyan University’s Department of Education offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees and is connected to a local elementary school which enables active engagement of students in the learning process. This on campus “lab” provides a unique experience both for faculty and students. This individual would chair the special education program and would be an active member of the Education Department and report to the Chair of the Department of Education. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications. Excellent benefits package. Position will be open until filled.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Doctorate in Education or closely related field preferred; Master’s degree with at least 3 years teaching experience in K-12 special education classroom will be considered; At least one degree (Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate) must be in special education and must have a demonstrated commitment to the DWU mission and values of learning, leadership, faith and service.
Preferred: Experience teaching in higher education; Teaching experience with mild/moderate disabilities; Exceptional community relations skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education and in Elementary Education. Active participation in Department of Education curriculum revisions, program development and assessment, development and instruction of on-line and interactive distance learning courses, campus and professional community service activities, student advising and recruitment, relationship building with local educators, collegiality, and other duties as assigned are expected.

Assistant Director of Student Life and Housing

Dakota Wesleyan University is seeking an enthusiastic and student focused Assistant Director of Student Life and Housing. This 12-month position reporting to the Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing all housing operations on campus, supervising two graduate assistant resident directors, and selection and training of undergraduate resident assistants. This individual will also direct campus security initiatives, assist with student activities and oversee student conduct within the residence halls to ensure a safe and positive learning and living environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs or related field, at least two years experience in student life or housing, strong leadership ability and excellent communication skills. Individuals currently enrolled in a master’s program will be considered. Strong knowledge and experience in judicial affairs is preferred. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission of DWU and our values of learning, leadership, faith, and service.

Compensation includes a base annual salary, apartment, meal plan, and full benefits. This position is required to live on campus in an apartment provided by the university.
