ATTENDANCE AT COMMENCEMENT is expected for any
student who completes requirements during the fall semester, spring
semester, or summer sessions of the 2010-11 academic year. There is
no summer commencement ceremony. |
|
|
|
2. |
|
EXCUSED ABSENCE is granted to a person who, due
to extenuating circumstances, is unable to attend the commencement
ceremony. Please submit a written request (including reasons) to the
provost (campus box 925) for permission to graduate in absentia. |
|
|
|
3. |
|
DIPLOMAS: Due to the timing of finals schedule
and graduation, diplomas will be mailed to you after grades have been
posted and completion of courses and requirements are confirmed. Students
will receive a diploma cover at Commencement and diplomas will be
mailed to the address you provided on your graduation application.
If you need to change this address, please notify the registrar’s
office in writing. In case of summer completion, the diploma is held
until the coursework is completed. |

COURSEWORK AND REQUIREMENTS must be successfully
completed before the ceremony. Students who fail courses or who receive
incompletes in work required for graduation will also receive a diploma
cover at Commencement and will receive their diploma when coursework
and all other requirements have been completed. |
|
|
|
5. |
|
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS to the college must be met
before candidacy for a degree is complete. Students with outstanding
bills at the time of graduation cannot participate in the Commencement
ceremonies, do not receive their diplomas, and cannot receive a transcript
of your grades. If you have questions about your financial status,
please contact the business office at 995-2693. |

|
CAPS AND GOWNS may be picked up after
April 1 and the completion of your exit interview by presenting your
exit interviewer’s business card at the Campus Bookstore. Students
should pick up their caps and gowns no later than Wednesday, April
27, 2011, at 5 p.m. Corsages may not be worn on the academic gown.
Phi Kappa Phi ribbons and honors society pins are allowed. The caps
and gowns are yours to keep after the ceremony. Tassels are to be
worn on the right. Bachelor of Arts candidates will be asked to move
their tassels to the left AFTER degrees have been conferred. |

PERSONALIZED GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS are available
at www.excition.com.

BACCALAUREATE is a traditional worship service
associated with graduation. All graduates, their families, and guests
are invited to attend. Baccalaureate will be held at the Sherman
Center 10 a.m., on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Students should meet
in the Village at 9:30 a.m.
in caps and gowns.
COMMENCEMENT will be held at the Corn Palace at
1 p.m., on Saturday, April 30, 2011. All graduates, their families,
and guests are invited to attend. Students should meet in the City
Armory (adjacent to the Corn Palace) at 12:15
p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in caps and gowns.
With the aid of Ms. Jerry Luckett, the Assistant Faculty Marshal,
and the Junior Marshals, the graduates will be lined up for procession
into the Corn Palace. Graduates process in single file and the Marshals
will direct seating. There is no rehearsal for the ceremony.

SEATING for faculty, administrators, students,
and other participants will be reserved at both Baccalaureate and
Commencement. Seating at the Corn Palace is ample so no other reserved
sections are designated. There is no restriction on number of guests
per graduate. |

|
HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY—The Corn Palace
main floor is handicapped accessible. The City Armory elevator is
located on the north side of the Armory and can be reached directly
from the parking lot behind the Corn Palace. Please call Emily in
the academic affairs office (995-2645) if you have members of your
party who need other special accommodations. |
