Getting Started with Your
New
SanDisk Cruzer Memory
Stick |
 |
Introduction
The SanDisk Cruzer memory stick is an external storage
device that works in exactly the same way as a floppy disk or a
re-recordable CD-ROM. Insert it into your laptop, and you can record up to
128 MB of information on it. Pull it out and take it with you. It can be
used in any other Pentium PC running Windows 98 or higher, or in a Macintosh
running OS 9.1 or higher. (Yes, it is cross-platform and may be used to
move files back and forth between a PC and a Mac.) The receiving computer
must have an available USB port (see below).
This is an extremely convenient method for moving files
between your home and DWU office, or to other locations such as a classroom
or conference. It is also an alternative method for removing files from
your old computer and re-installing them on your new IBM ThinkPad. For a
frame of reference, 128 MB is storage space equivalent to that of about 100
floppy disks, or just under one-fourth the capacity of a CD-ROM.
Setting
Up
|

|
Pull off the plastic cap and insert the Cruzer into
an available USB port on your laptop. USB ports are located in two
places – position 4 on the left side (see left) and position 7 on the
right side (see right). Insert the memory stick with “cruzer mini 128 MB” facing up. |

|
Your laptop should recognize the memory stick as an
external storage device, just as it would a CD-ROM or a floppy disk (if it
had a floppy drive). You do not have to go through a hardware installation
procedure.
As with a CD-ROM, it will take a few seconds for the
laptop to recognize the Cruzer and open it. The window for the memory stick
may open for you automatically on your desktop. If it doesn’t, go to the
Start menu and click on My Computer. Click on the icon for
Removable Disk (E) to access the Cruzer.

File reading and recording functions are exactly the
same as with a floppy disk or desktop file.
