- Chronology of US Historical Documents 1850-1874: Includes the Gettysburg Address, Emancipation Proclamation, the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, inaugural addresses of contemporary presidents, etc.
- Gilder Lehrman Center Online Documents: Over 200 primary source documents relating to the study of slavery, resistance and abolition.
- The Historical New York Times Project. Chapter 2: The Civil War Years 1860-1866: Carnegie Mellon University's project provides searchable scanned images of newspaper pages.
- Making of America: a digital library of primary sources in American social history. Searches the contents of around 8,500 books and 50,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints. Includes access to the multivolume sets:
- Try Boolean searches for specific names, places, or events.
- Nineteenth Century Documents Project: Representative documents with emphasis on sectional conflict and transformations in regional identity.
- The Southern Homefront 1861-1865: Documents Southern life during the Civil War -- over 400 contemporary printed works and manuscripts. From the Documenting the American South Collection at the University of North Caroling, Chapel Hill.
- Streaming West: Railway Activity Westward Through Kansas, 1860-1890: Eight items from the archives at the University of Kansas.
- The Valley of the Shadow: Two Communities in the American Civil War: Digital archive of original letters, diaries, newspaper articles, speeches, etc. from Augusta County, VA and Franklin County, PA.
