General Information
The nursing program at Dakota Wesleyan University reflects the institution’s commitment to service and leadership within the region. The associate degree nursing program provides a curriculum designed to prepare the graduate for general staff nurse positions in hospitals, long term care facilities and community agencies. The nursing curriculum is based upon the philosophy of caring and builds upon the three nursing roles (provider of care, manager of care and member within the discipline of nursing) of the associate degree nurse and the four major concepts of person, health/illness, environment and nursing.

The nursing program is designed to offer the body of knowledge and learning experiences necessary to prepare individuals for associate degree nursing practice. Graduates of the nursing program earn an associate of arts degree and will have satisfied the academic requirements necessary for eligibility to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

The program is approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 61 Broadway-33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006; telephone: 800-669-1656, ext. 153; Web site: www.nlnac.org.
