LPN-RN, Sioux Falls Site
Admission Requirements/Process
The application for the LPN-RN Program in Sioux Falls can be completed
online. To request a DWU application from the DWU Admissions Office,
call 1-800-333-8506. For questions regarding the LPN-RN admissions process,

Applicants must provide documentation of the following requirements
before the Nursing Admissions Committee will review an application
for admission to the LPN-RN program in Sioux Falls:
- Copy of current
licensure as an LPN in South Dakota; one year of work experience
as an LPN is recommended before beginning the LPN-RN curriculum
- Cumulative
grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above in college, university
vocational and technical school coursework. All nursing
and prerequisite courses
from other institutions should be transferred and present on the DWU
transcript. If this is not possible in the case of a course still
in progress, attach
a current transcript that documents the courses in progress
from that institution.
- One of the following:
- ACT composite score of 18 or greater (for high
school graduates 2000-present),
or
- Nursing supervisor/manager letter of reference including nursing
skill and care competencies, working relationships
with health care team members, communication
skills, professional conduct and appearance, and attendance
(for non-traditional applicant with at least one year of work
experience
as an LPN).
Application Process
Initial consideration of applications for fall semester admission
into the LPN-AA program will begin on October 1. Application
materials received after October 1 will be considered on a space
available basis.

Applicants who meet all admission requirements for the LPN-RN curriculum,
Sioux Falls campus, may be invited to meet with the Nursing Admission
Committee for a personal interview and on-site written submission. The
Nursing Admission Committee includes DWU nursing faculty members and
enrollment services staff members. Selection is made from among the
best qualified for the study and practice of nursing. Applicants will
be notified in writing by the DWU Department of Nursing regarding the
Nursing Admission Committee decision.
Transfer credits for the LPN-RN program, Sioux Falls
Licensed practical nurses are admitted to the Sioux Falls site LPN-RN
nursing program with 16 transfer credits for nursing coursework completed
in the LPN program. The LPN-RN student is allowed to challenge four
non-nursing courses (physiology, microbiology, sociology and general
psychology).
