Mission Statement of the Dakota Wesleyan University
Arlene Gates Department of Nursing
The Arlene Gates Department of Nursing at Dakota Wesleyan University aspires to prepare students for a meaningful career in professional nursing in a liberal arts setting. The nursing faculty cultivates a challenging learning environment based on Christian values and acceptance of diversity. The Arlene Gates Department of Nursing fosters professional growth, leadership, lifelong learning, and commitment to service.
RN-BS Nursing Program Statement of Purpose
The purposes of the RN-BS nursing program at Dakota Wesleyan University are to:
- prepare graduates to meet the requirements of the Bachelor of Science Degree;
- provide the opportunity for registered nurses to advance their knowledge, skills, and abilities through an education a program in which accessibility is enhanced through distance learning and is based on the core values of learning, leadership, faith and service; and,
- prepare professional nurse generalists, who are able to practice in a variety of health care delivery settings, which could be local, state, national or global in nature.
RN-BS Nursing Program Learning Outcomes
PROVIDER OF CARE
The student will:
- apply the nursing process and critical thinking skills in the provision of holistic, evidence-based nursing care that promotes the adaptive capabilities of culturally diverse groups of clients, families, populations, and communities in order to enhance their achievement of integrated wholeness.
- design a teaching/learning plan that reflects the holistic learning needs and adaptive capabilities of individuals, families, populations, and communities.
- design primary, secondary, and tertiary preventive strategies that promote adaptive lifestyle behaviors in collaboration with individuals, families, populations, and communities.
MANAGER OF CARE
The student will:
- design case management strategies in partnership with individuals, families, populations, and communities that reflect effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, effective use of technological resources, and cost-effectiveness.
MEMBER OF A PROFESSION
The student will:
- analyze decision making processes guided by legal and ethical nursing standards, used in the provision of nursing care of individuals, families, populations, and communities.
LEADER
The student will:
- demonstrate servant leadership and management strategies that reflect empowerment of others.
