2013-2014 SNA Honors and Activities


June 2013 – Heart & Sole Cancer Walk, nursing students raised money, set up a tent and walked in the event

August 2013 –Several second year nursing students provided skill mentoring to new nursing students during the Nurse Aide Course

September 2013 – DWU Homecoming, nursing students decorated a float for the parade, “Nursing through Time, and won Best use of Theme; students donated bags of candy, rode on the float or walked in the parade and tossed candy

October 2013 – Collected cans of fruit and donated money to the Mitchell Snack Pack Program

October 2013 – Several 2nd year nursing students participated in influenza clinics at Avera Queen of Peace hospital

October 2013 – 12 nursing students helped with the community (POD) flu shot clinic at the Corn Palace

November 2013 – Eight 1st year nursing students helped with blood pressure screenings during the American Cancer Society’s “Grocers Fight Cancer” community service project at County Fair Food Store

November 2013 – Held a “Thirty-One” Fundraiser, sold nursing lanyards and nursing t-shirts

December 2013 – Christmas Caroling at Avera Brady nursing home and assisted living facility; participated in taking vital signs at Avera Brady nursing home and assisted living facility



February 2014 – Health Fair at Mitchell Christian School, nursing students helped with eye screenings and lab draws

February 2014 –Tetanus booster clinic at the Mitchell Middle school

March 2014 – NSASD convention in Sioux Falls; Mitchell SNA’s candidate for the outstanding nursing student of South Dakota was Sara Konrad; two Mitchell nursing students elected to the NSASD executive board as first vice president and recording secretary for 2014-2015

March 2014 – Love Feast, First United Methodist Church, nursing students participated in serving the meal and provided blood pressure screenings

March 2014 – Scentsy Fundraiser

April 2014 – Mega Heart event for Heart Health Awareness Day, nursing students helped with blood pressure screenings and helped participants listen to heart and lung sounds

April 2014 – DWU Service Day, nursing students helped residents at Wesley Acres and helped with taking residents from assisted living/long term health care facilities to the circus
