Digital DWU Experience
Dakota Wesleyan University has always been a place of community; a place where students become a part of something larger than just a college. Now DWU offers the adult learner a unique opportunity to become part of the DWU community – digital community, that is. We offer three fully online degree programs:
The DWU digital campus is a place where the adult student will learn with their peers juggling career, family and personal commitments while remaining dedicated to the challenge of earning a degree. The programs’ asynchronous manner allows students to participate in class discussions, submit coursework and communicate with faculty and classmates anytime during the day or night. More than just a place to go to class online, the digital campus serves as a community in which to develop relationships with peers and faculty members both in and outside of the class environment.
Our distinct tradition of delivering personalized education grounded in our values of learning, leadership, faith and service will be present in these online programs. Our commitment to engaging discussions of ethics, values and compassion will remain at the forefront of these new degree programs.
Learners are encouraged to collaborate meaningfully on real-world problems in order to transcend the experience from the classroom into everyday life.
There are four education-related Master of Arts in Education programs.
- STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Instruction
- Secondary Certification
- Principal Certification
- Educational Policy and Administration
The STEM instruction program is for teachers who wish to explore contemporary instructional practice as related to science, technology and engineering. It is appropriate for state-certified elementary through high school teachers.
The secondary certification program is designed for individuals who do not currently have a teaching degree, but rather a bachelor’s degree in a content area and an interest in teaching. At the completion of this program and upon passage of the Praxis II content and Praxis PLT tests, graduates can become certified 7-12 teachers.
Teachers wishing to move into administrative positions should pursue the principal certification program. With this degree and three years’ teaching experience, students qualify for Pre K-12 principal positions.
The educational policy and administration program is geared to individuals who are interested in higher education. It is an ideal program for those who wish to pursue administrative positions, to include coaching at the college level, teaching at some institutions and college administration.
For those who have already earned a baccalaureate degree, DWU’s Master of Business Administration program is open to all academic disciplines and professional backgrounds creating a learning experience rich in diversity and perspective. The entrepreneurial and strategic leadership focus of this program is enhanced by a values-driven emphasis that is informed by an active and applied Christian worldview.
For registered nurses aspiring to continue their education with an RN-B.S. nursing degree, students will have the opportunity to earn credit for their professional RN experience and complete this degree in as few as 14 months. This degree builds upon previous knowledge and provides the opportunity for students to develop abilities and skills related to the roles of a bachelor's-prepared nurse.
