DWU’s business degree in Pierre provides high school graduates the ability to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Organizational Management.
MITCHELL – Dakota Wesleyan University’s business degree program in Pierre is under new leadership offering students a fresh approach to the 16-month program. Started in 2021, DWU’s business degree in Pierre provides high school graduates the ability to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Organizational Management, in less time, with less debt.
Renae Lehman, of Pierre, took over as program coordinator in August 2024. With over 25 years of experience as an educator, librarian, and program coordinator, Lehman brings a strong background in teaching, public service, and program development. She has worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, creating curriculum, coordinating outreach programs, and leading teams with confidence and integrity.
“Renae is a great addition to the program,” DWU Vice President of Admissions and Marketing Fredel Thomas said. “She works with all aspects of the program including recruitment, internship opportunities, and facilitation. Renae’s leadership will ensure that students who enroll get a high-quality education.”
The program, offered on-site at the Capital City Campus in Pierre, is an affordable and efficient 16-month path to a professional career. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to fill professional roles with classroom and online learning, equipping them to work in the business field. Students participate in a year-long, part-time, paid internship while completing their coursework, and are matched with a career coach to guide and support them during the fast-paced academic journey. Past internships have included opportunities at BankWest, state government agencies, the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of small businesses. The 16-month business program is also a great fit for students looking to transfer from other higher education institutions to complete their degree and start their professional career.
Students will learn practical, job-ready skills in business, communication, finance, organization, and leadership. According to Lehman, “The curriculum is built to prepare you for what actually matters in the workplace, not just theories in a textbook.”
Applications are now being accepted for the new cohort, with classes starting in January 2026. For more information about the degree or to apply, visit https://www.dwu.edu/Business-Degree-Pierre-Campus.
