Aug. 8, 2006 DWU leads SD in university diversity
MITCHELL - The smallest four-year university in South Dakota also has the most diverse student body. DWU is featured in a news story run by South Dakota Public Broadcasting. Johanna Sailor, SDPB, talked with Amy Novak, vice president for enrollment management at DWU. Sixteen percent of DWU’s 800 undergraduates were either African American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, or from other foreign countries. That’s a much larger percentage than the other four-year universities in South Dakota. “We are very proud to be leading the way in diversity among South Dakota’s higher education institutions,” said Bob Duffett, DWU president. “This is part of our mission as a United Methodist university. In fact, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s strategic plan calls for placing a special emphasis on the empowerment and engagement of racial and ethnic minorities. We are happy to help fulfill this strategic imperative of both our university and our church.” View a
