DWU Commencement events announced

MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University will celebrate commencement this weekend, May 5 and 6, with a host of traditional events.

The pinning ceremony for graduating nursing students will be Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Sherman Center. The pinning ceremony and the Nightingale lamp lighting ceremony will be featured at the event. Forty-two nurses from the Mitchell site and 12 nurses from the new Sioux Falls program will receive pins.

Baccalaureate is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. in the Sherman Center. Bishop Deborah L. Keisey of the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church will offer the message, and the Armstrong Award for Peace and Justice will be presented.

That afternoon at 2 p.m., Commencement will take place at the Corn Palace. U.S. District Judge James E.Gritzner, Des Moines, Iowa, will give the Commencement address, “In a Position to Win.” Gritzner is a 1969 graduate of DWU.

An honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters will be conferred upon Dwight D. Opperman, Dellwood, Minn. Nine students will receive Master of Arts degrees, 111 students will receive Bachelor of Arts degrees and 55 students will receive Associate of Arts degrees.
