May 16, 2006 Two students place at national event Jordan Krell, Plankinton, and Elizabeth Bosworth, White Lake, received fourth-place honors at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis. Krell, a sophomore, placed with his “Smart Seat” project. The affordable child safety seat alerts drivers and others that a child has been left unattended for a set period of time while the car’s ignition is off. The seat also alerts drivers if the seat becomes unbuckled for any reason when the ignition is on. Bosworth, also a sophomore, created a project named “Making Methane,” which uses animal manure to produce methane. Such a system could be used to produce an alternative fuel source and help reduce global warming. A
team from Mitchell High School also received recognition for their
efforts. Terra Toribio and Trisha Schleich did not place at Indianapolis,
but gave their presentation: “Plastic Food Containers: An Unsafe
Situation?” |
