May 25, 2006 DWU announces new majors MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University will offer new majors and minors beginning this fall. New programs will include a public service and leadership major, a law enforcement minor for wildlife management majors, a Spanish minor for native speakers and a cultural studies minor. The introduction of the public service and leadership major coincides with the opening of the George and Eleanor McGovern Library and Center for Public Service and Leadership. Inspired by the McGoverns, DWU students will take an interdisciplinary approach to developing skills necessary to serve and lead in careers ranging from child protection services and the Peace Corps to public office and non-profit administration. “We’re excited about the possibilities with this program,” said Amy Novak, dean of enrollment at DWU. “It sets us apart from other schools in the state. We’re offering a curriculum that no one else in South Dakota has.” “While building on our core values, we are adding programs that make our students competitive in the job market,” said Don Watt, vice president for academic affairs and dean. “Before they graduate, many students have tried out careers in their fields by completing internships, and those internships often turn into job offers or quality recommendations.” For more information on the programs and majors offered at DWU, contact
