Nov. 1, 2006 DWU nursing staff members receive recognition MITCHELL – Dakota Wesleyan University nursing instructors are featured as among the best in their fields. DWU nursing professor Gloria Thompson was named the District Nurse of the Year by the South Dakota Nurses Association (SDNA) at their annual convention last month. District nurses were honored for their exceptional service, dedication, and commitment that they represent to the nursing community. Thompson has been a nursing faculty member at DWU since 1990 and currently serves as the administrative chair of the department of nursing and an associate professor. The Huron site nursing program is led by Adele Jacobson, associate professor, since DWU began that program to help the former Si Tanka University students and future Huron area students complete their nursing degrees. Jacobson was the subject of an article in the SDSU College of Nursing’s summer 2006 publication. She was commended by students and fellow nursing faculty for her commitment to students and to nursing, and for continuing to assist students even though Si Tanka was no longer in operation. Jacobson worked with other nursing programs in the state to help her students fulfill clinical obligations and complete their programs. DWU has nursing programs in Sioux Falls and Huron as well as on the
main campus in Mitchell. For more information about DWU’s nursing
programs, visit www.dwu.edu/nursing or call 605-995-2702. |
