Annual food drive results

MITCHELL – DWU students collected 3500 pounds of food during their annual Freshman Food Drive on Aug. 27.

“While we think 3500 pounds of food is a lot, the Salvation Army told us that in four to six weeks that supply will be gone,” said Brandon Vetter, campus pastor. “They feed 60 to 80 families per week, so the need is great.”

DWU students participate in the food drive as part of their orientation to the Wesleyan motto, “Sacrifice or Service.” It is one of many orientation weekend activities.

“The freshman class and the upperclassmen who helped out with this really did a great job. We want to thank the Mitchell community for their support, and encourage continued donation to the food pantry,” said Clarence Pederson, director of The Career Center at DWU and coordinator of the annual food drive.

DWU is a private, liberal arts university associated with the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church. For more information about Dakota Wesleyan University and other service learning projects, call 995-2600 or 800-333-8506.
