McGovern Avenue unveiled

MITCHELL – DWU and community members gathered to officially mark the change from East University Avenue to McGovern Avenue.

The Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the ceremony, with speakers including Mayor Lou Sebert and Geri Beck, Chamber president-elect.

DWU President Bob Duffett spoke of McGovern’s contributions to the university and the world.

Sen. McGovern reminisced about his time on the DWU campus and what it meant to him to have the street named in his honor.

The McGovern Library will be dedicated Oct. 5-7, with President Bill Clinton and Sen. Bob Dole attending various events during the weekend.
